ETS has a TOEFL YouTube channel dedicated to TOEFL strategies. It's a basic introduction to basic strategies with nothing about scoring strategies.
Remember: TOEFL is all about scoring. Therefore, every TOEFL strategy should begin and end with scoring. That is what my TOEFL texts teach, not TOEFL strategies - TOEFL scoring strategies.
Okay, so I watch a video like the one below, and I think, "Interesting. Interesting." More importantly, I think, "Okay, so we hear a few sample responses. Good. Good. But what are their scores? Wait! What are their scores, and why?"
At the end, the teacher talks about scoring - for 5 seconds! She holds up a magazine full of "rubrics" - and that's it. No scoring strategies. Good sample responses. No scoring strategies.
Remember: Whenever you watch a TOEFL video, or listen to a TOEFL teacher, or learn a new TOEFL strategy, do what the Pro does. Ask this question: "How is this connected to scoring?"
Want to learn basic and advanced speaking and writing scoring strategies? It's all in the book.
Got a TOEFL question? Ask the Pro!
